Chester Bennington has died, apparent suicide

Chester Bennington was an American singer and songwriter best known as the frontman for the rock band Linkin Park. He died of an apparent suicide by hanging at his home in Palos Verdes Estates, California; his housekeeper discovered his body around 9 a.m. PDT on July 20, 2017.

“Shocked and heartbroken, but it’s true, An official statement will come out as soon as we have one” Linkin Park’s guitarist and main songwriter Mike Shinoda wrote on Twitter.

It is understood that Chester Bennington struggle with drug abuse but later turned his life around.

“When I was a guy in my 20s getting out of it, I didn’t realise I’d have these (drug) problems for my whole life. I didn’t think I’d be in one of the biggest bands in the world with a beautiful family at 41 going ‘F—, I could have easily have blacked out driving my car again two months ago,” Chester Bennington  was quoted in the Australian interview.

He also told Britain’s Team Rock that he was abused, ” I was getting beaten up and being forced to do things I didn’t want to do. It destroyed my self-confidence. Like most people, I was too afraid to say anything. I didn’t want people to think I was gay or that I was lying.”

Linkin Park was scheduled to start a tour next week which would include a performance at New York’s Citi Field baseball stadium alongside other major acts from the band’s generation including Blink-182 and the Wu-Tang Clan.
